Symptoms
- I would like to run multiple versions of Unity on my machine
- I would like to activate multiple Unity Editor versions on the same machine
Cause
You may be developing a game using multiple versions of the Editor and need to install several versions of the Editor on the same machine.
Resolution
You can install multiple versions of the Editor on a single machine by using our Unity Hub software. Unity Hub also handles the activations for you where you only need to activate once. Providing that your license allows you to use the specific version you require, you are able to load that version inside the Hub for the Project that you want.
If you would prefer not to use the Unity Hub (this would only work for Unity versions prior to 2019.1), you can refer to the processes below.
Macintosh Users:
You will be able to install multiple versions of the Editor, however you may have trouble finding them once installed if you do not rename the folders. When the Editor is installed, navigate to the Unity folder in Finder and rename it.
We also recommend that you rename the .exe file within the installation folder. There are a few people who also change the icon, which is a great idea.
Windows Users:
When installing the Editor, please ensure that you rename the directory that the Editor is installed to.
Ensure that you change this install folder name for each new version, otherwise the older version will be replaced.

The question was "can i Activate multiple versions of Unity" not can in install multiple versions of unity.
What is left unanswered is if i have to activate each install individually and whether or not that counts towards your activation count.
It would be helpful to more fully understand if activation is per PC/Mac user account or per Editor install?
Yeah, the question asked does not match up with the answer provided! I believe this is because the actual answer (which they're trying to avoid) is that, no, you can't activate multiple versions of Unity on one machine. The license can only be active on one version at a time, meaning that you have to release the license back and then activate it again on the other version. This is a very awkward way for people to manage multiple projects with different versions (unless you pay for another license!!)
I have upgraded from 'Personal' to 'Plus'. But the Editor always comes up as the free version (Personal). I don't know what I did or didn't do correctly. Do you have a clue?
Hi Steven,
Thanks for the comment,
I've checked that the Plus license key is assigned to your account but it has not been activated yet.
Can you activate your license first via Unity hub by following this article ?
After then, you will be able to find your activation record via your dashboard by signing in at id.unity.com and going to the "My Seats" tab.
If you have any problem activating your license, please reach out to us via support@unity3d.com, and we will look into your issue further.
what?
How much time and effort must we put in to this problem? Can you see that I have the 'Plus' level? Will somebody just push the button and make it so? Do I pay for the year first and then get the 'Plus'? Unity has my subscription. Please push the button and activate 'Plus'.
Hi Steven,
Thanks for contacting us. Apologies for the inconvenience with your Plus subscription.
