Symptoms:
- I am an Asset Store publisher wanting to make my assets more appealing to users.
- I have been advised that my key images need improvement.
- I am submitting an asset to the Asset Store.
- I would like to know the size requirements for any screenshots of my product I have.
- I would like to know if there is a size limit for key images.
- My Asset Store submission has been declined because of my key images.
Cause:
Key images can increase customer interest in your assets and enhance your user base.
Key images and screenshots will showcase to potential customers what you asset can do. Key images should also indicate what your asset package does and help it stand out.
Resolution:
Key images (new publisher portal: Marketing images), screenshots and video/audio are a good way of showcasing your asset. Create interesting image design that will demonstrate what your asset does, helps it stand out, and entices the user to view it and think about purchasing.
Users often use screenshots and videos/ audio as a package preview before they actually buy it, so it is highly recommended to add them in.
We understand creating key images is not an easy task for any asset category and your creativity can be put to a hard test. Unity has Key image templates that we recommend you looking at.
The limits for key image types are as follows:
- Icon: 160 x 160 pixels: The icon image is visible while users are browsing the Asset Store using the icon grid layout. This image should not contain text. Note: icon images must be 160x160, even though the actual display size is 80x80. At 80x80, image text is not readable as the image is too small, but uploading the larger size lets the Asset Store display icons clearly at the smaller size.
- Card: 420 x 280 pixels: This is a thumbnail visible on the default view while browsing the Asset Store. Note: like icon images, card images must be uploaded at a larger size (420x280) than the size of the image that ultimately appears on the Asset Store. This image can have only the title of the asset and a logo or name of the publisher as text.
- Cover: 1950 x 1300 pixels: This is what customers see on the main product page for your package. Note: like icon images, images must be uploaded at a larger size (1950x1300) than the size of the image that ultimately appears on the Asset Store. This image can only have the following text:
Title of the asset.
Logo or name of the publisher.
A tag line.
- Social Media: 1200 x 630 pixels: The Unity community team might post these images to social media, or on the Asset Store home page. This image should not contain text.
- Screenshots: minimum width 1200. These images should be used to showcase your asset in detail - how it looks from different perspectives, how it works, what it can do.
- Videos/audio: YouTube, Vimeo, Soundcloud, Mixcloud and Sketchfab links are accepted. If video is uploaded directly, it has to be in mp4 file format and a maximum size of 500 MB. The video could be a tutorial on how to use the asset, how to set it up, a showcase how it looks from different angles or with different animations.
To set one or more key images:
- In the Metadata & Artwork section, under the Key Images column, click the Edit button (Set the Icon, Card, Cover, and Social Media images on the Key Images page)
- To upload an image, click Choose File or drag and drop the image onto the grey box. Note: The image must be the exact size as indicated.
- The uploaded image appears with a Remove button under it, which you can click if you need to remove that image.
- To return to the package window, click Go Back.
All key images must preferably be limited on the amount of text, logos and contain no watermarks.
On your asset page, all written information is under the cover image. Any kind of excessive amount of text on your image is at great risk of interfering with our sales overlays which decreases the visual standard and localization abilities.
We occasionally choose individual assets for an Asset Store financed social media promotion. Due to Facebook’s regulations (for example), any asset with text on its key image must be disregarded.
Note: Key images cannot contain any of the following:
- Unity logos.
- Sale banners.
- The default Unity Skybox (for example, as a background).
- The images must not be blurry, stretched, or cropped.
- The images cannot only be screenshots of the Unity Editor.
- You should make different designs for images of different sizes so that the objects or visuals in the icon and card images are legible and separate.
With regards to the ideal asset size, you can set four different resolutions so that your key images appear as icons or thumbnails when customers browse or filter the list of packages available in the Asset Store, and as larger images on the main product page or on social media.
