Symptoms:
- How do I activate my Student license?
- How do I activate my Educator license?
Resolution:
Unity Student and Educator plans use a named-user licensing system, meaning you don't need a serial key.
Activation Steps
Step 1: Ensure Your License Seat Is Assigned
To activate your license, you need to assign a seat to your Unity ID account.
Seats are typically automatically assigned after SheerID verifies your student or educator status.
If a seat isn't automatically assigned to your account, follow the steps in the article: How do I assign a Unity subscription license seat to a user?.
Step 2: Sign in Using Unity Hub
Once your license seat is assigned:
- Open the Unity Hub.
- Sign in to your Unity ID account.
Your Unity license activates automatically upon signing in.
Step 3: Confirm Activation
To verify that your license is activated:
- In the Unity Hub, select Preferences (gear/cog icon).
- Navigate to the Licenses tab.
If your license does not appear, click Refresh to activate your Student or Educator license.
Note: This guide applies only to Unity Editor versions 2019.4.27+, or 2020.2.2 and later. If you're using an earlier version, refer to the Unity Pro section of the article: How do I activate my license? |
Returning Your License Activation
If you need to deactivate or return your license, log out of Unity Hub. This step returns the license activation tied to your account.
Troubleshooting
Error: License Activation Limits
Unity allows license activation on a maximum of two computers per account. If you previously activated a license key, those old activations may interfere with your new Student or Educator license.
To resolve the problem, return the old activations linked to your account by following the instructions in this article: How do I return the activations on my Pro/ Plus/ Enterprise license?
Additional Assistance
If you continue experiencing activation issues or encounter errors:
- Collect your Unity Hub log files. More information about where to find these can be found in the article, 'I have been asked to provide a log file, where do I find this?
- Contact Unity Customer Experience for further support. Unity's support team will guide you through resolving the error.
