Objective:
This guide provides an overview explaining how QoS and Matchmaker work together to facilitate player placement.
QoS and Matchmaker Flow:
- The QoS system measures latency and packet loss between players and QoS servers in different regions.
- These QoS results are attached to each player's matchmaking ticket.
- The Matchmaker ensures players are only matched together if they have at least one region in common that satisfies the QoS rules (latency/packet loss thresholds).
- Once matched, all players in a match will be allocated to the same region that best fits the group.
Regarding specific locations:
- It is not directly possible to place players into specific locations within a fleet region.
- The system works at the fleet region level, not the individual location level.
- When a region is selected, the actual server allocation happens within that region based on availability, not specific location preferences.
- While you can see specific locations like asia-east1, asia-east2 etc., the matchmaker operates at the region level and lets Multiplay handle the specific location allocation.
Best Practices:
- Use QoS rules to set acceptable latency thresholds for matching.
- Configure appropriate fleet regions for your player base.
- Let the matchmaker automatically handle region selection based on QoS results.
- Use relaxation settings if needed to balance match quality vs wait times.
