Symptoms:
- I am an Asset Store publisher.
- I want to submit my earnings to my local tax authority.
- I want to know what information about my Asset Store earnings I need to submit for tax purposes.
Cause:
Tax offices in certain countries require proof of earnings for their records.
For US-based publishers only, a 1099-K is generated if a publisher has more than 200 transactions and has received payments totaling $20,000 or more during the tax year. If this applies to you, the forms are sent via email from publisher_inquiry@unity3d.com with the subject line "MESSAGE FROM Unity - 1099-K DOCUMENTATION ENCLOSED".
If you don't meet these thresholds or are not based in the US, a 1099-K will not be issued. However, you may still be required to report your Asset Store earnings to your local tax authority regardless of receiving the form. To help with this, you can access your 'self-bills' in the ID portal to provide proof of payment for accounting purposes.
