Issue:
When attempting to view analytics data in the Unity Dashboard using the Event Browser feature, the page fails to load and displays an error message. The most common text shown is:
“Unexpected error occurred when trying to show content.”
This problem may appear immediately when you click on Event Browser from the Unity Analytics navigation menu, or it may occur after the Event Browser page partially loads and then stops. In some cases, the Event Browser view remains blank, or only shows the navigation bar without any event data.
Users have reported:
- The Event Browser not loading any events or data.
- Receiving the “Unexpected error” message after selecting Event Browser.
- The Event Browser page failing to respond or update after a refresh.
This issue has been reported across multiple browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari) and operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux).
Some users notice that other parts of the Unity Dashboard load normally (such as Overview, Data Explorer, or Funnel views), but the Event Browser specifically fails with the “Unexpected error occurred when trying to show content” message. Others find the error happens intermittently — sometimes the Event Browser loads, other times it shows the error immediately.
Environment:
- Product: Unity Analytics
- Feature: Event Browser in the Unity Dashboard
- Platform: Unity Dashboard (web browser)
- Configuration: Accessing project analytics data via Event Browser
- Recent changes: None required; occurs regardless of recent project changes.
- Browser setup: Commonly reported when using a browser with ad‑blocking extensions or built‑in content blockers enabled (examples: uBlock Origin, Adblock Plus, Brave Shields, etc.).
Cause:
Ad‑blocking extensions or built‑in browser content blockers may block necessary scripts or network requests used by the Event Browser interface. This prevents the content from loading and results in the “Unexpected error” message.
Resolution:
Temporarily disable your adblocker or content blocker for the Unity Dashboard domain:
https://cloud.unity.com
- Refresh the page and try accessing the Event Browser again.
- If you prefer to keep the adblocker enabled, add an exception/whitelist rule for Unity Dashboard so required scripts and requests are not blocked.
- If the issue persists after disabling the adblocker, try:
- Clearing browser cache and cookies.
- Using an incognito/private browsing window without extensions enabled.
- Switching to a different supported browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari) without adblockers running.
- Try a user with more sufficient organizational/project privileges.
