Unity AI Assistant shows a “NoSubscription” error despite an active subscription because the user’s Unity ID lacks an assigned AI seat in the organization. This causes conversation refresh failures and connection issues. To resolve, assign a Unity AI seat to the user via cloud.unity.com under Administration → Subscription, then restart the Editor and sign back in to restore functionality.
Symptoms:
- Unity AI Assistant displays a “NoSubscription” error from generators.ai.unity.com despite an active Unity AI subscription.
- Console logs show repeated errors: “An error has occurred in AI Assistant. There was an issue refreshing conversations from the server.”
- AI Assistant fails to refresh conversations and connect to Unity Cloud.
- Issue persists after signing out/in, restarting the Editor and computer, verifying project organization link, and checking for AI Assistant package updates.
Cause:
A Unity AI seat has not been assigned to the user’s Unity ID within the organization’s Unity AI subscription, even though the subscription itself is active. Without a seat assignment, the AI Assistant backend treats the user as having no valid subscription, resulting in the “NoSubscription” error and failed conversation refresh.
Resolution:
1. Sign in to cloud.unity.com with your Unity ID.
2. Navigate to Administration → Subscription.
3. Locate the Unity AI service in your organization’s subscriptions.
4. Confirm that your Unity ID email address is assigned a Unity AI seat.
If no seat is assigned, add/assign a seat to your Unity ID. After assigning the seat, please restart the Unity Editor or sign out and back in with your Unity ID before trying again.
