Why can't I download an asset I purchased from the Unity Asset Store?

Symptoms:
  • I bought an asset on the Asset Store but I'm having problems downloading it
  • I get an error when I try to open my purchased asset in the Unity editor
  • The asset I bought only partly downloads and does not complete
  • The button 'Open in Unity' doesn't open my purchased asset
 
Cause:
 
Unity does not automatically download your Asset Store purchases. To use assets, you need to download them manually following the steps in the support article 'How do I download an asset?'
 
In some cases, you may encounter challenges while attempting to download packages. This article provides the most common scenarios and recommendations for solving these issues. 

Error: Unable to get purchase details because you may not have purchased this package

This error can appear in the Package Manager when you click the Download button. However, this does not actually stop the download from happening. If you click on Download or Import again within the Package Manager, the download or import will start normally. 
 

Open in Unity button does not work

There are several reasons why the Open in Unity button does not immediately trigger your asset download. The recommended solutions are outlined in the article 'Open in Unity button does not work'.

Error refreshing packages

This error happens when the Unity Editor can't connect to the Package Manager and the Asset Store. You should save your project and close the Editor and Hub completely making sure the application does not continue running as a background process. Then relaunch the Hub and open your project. The Package Manager should work normally.

Failed to import package with error: Couldn't decompress package

Failed to import package with error: Couldn't decompress package can be an indication that there is not enough space in your machine to download the asset. Make sure that you have enough space on your hard drive and also in your temporary folder. 

This error can also happen when the download is corrupt. In this case, you need to delete the asset folder from your machine and then re-download the package. You can find the asset files in the following locations:

  • Windows: C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\Unity\Asset Store-5.x\[PublisherName]
  • Mac: /Users/[UserName]/Library/Unity/Asset Store-5.x/[PublisherName]

On occasion, the above does not resolve the problem. We strongly encourage you to review this forum post, which includes recommendations from other users who were affected by this issue and managed to resolve it. 

The asset download stops halfway through:

If your asset begins to download but stops halfway through, you might be experiencing one of these common connection issues: 

  • You have a firewall or proxy in place, which is blocking the connection to the server. Try allowing these ports in your settings: 80 and 443.
  • You have a VPN or an anti-virus software running. Try disabling these temporarily to download the asset.
  • You have a weak or intermittent internet connection. Unity needs an uninterrupted connection. Make sure your network is strong and stable. If you do experience weak or intermittent connection issues, we recommend downloading via ethernet. You may also need to speak to your ISP or network administrator for further assistance.
  • There is a problem with the Unity Package Manager. Check Unity Package Manager troubleshooting documentation for more information.
