This error occurs when network issues, firewalls, antivirus, proxies, or Unity server problems block connection to Unity's servers, preventing license refresh. Unity Personal users need internet to use the Editor, with a 30-day offline grace period. To resolve, refresh the license via Unity Hub or sign out and back in. If issues persist, check network stability, disable VPN/proxies, antivirus, firewalls, and whitelist specified domains. Contact Customer Experience with log files if unresolved.
Cause:
This error may appear if something on your network is blocking the connection to Unity's servers, such as a slow or intermittent internet connection, antivirus software, a firewall, or the use of a proxy, causing your license process to fail.
The error message 'Unable to refresh license. Please try again,' can also appear if there is an issue with the Unity Servers. Unity server status can be checked here: status.unity.com.
| Note: Unity Personal users must ensure they are connected to the internet to use the Editor. There is a 30-day grace period for offline use before you are blocked from working and need to reconnect to the internet to refresh your license. |
Resolution:
To refresh your Unity license, follow the steps below:
Launch the Unity Hub.
Select Manage licenses.
Click Refresh.
Review the Editor Software Terms pop-up, and select Agree.
Alternatively, you can sign out and back into your Unity ID to refresh your license:
1. Launch the Unity Hub.
2. Select your account icon (displayed as your initials) in the top-right of the window.
3 Select Sign out.
4. Click the Sign in.
If refreshing the license and re-logging to the Unity Hub did not solve the error, it is highly likely that the issue is connection or network related. It is recommended to check the following:
Check that your internet connection is stable. Try an alternative network if available.
Disable any VPN or proxies used on your machine or network.
Temporarily disable your anti-virus and firewall.
