Symptoms:
- I want to install Unity on my computer and I see the option to install the Unity Hub.
- I see many references to the Unity Hub in my tutorial and I want to understand what the Unity Hub is.
Cause:
Some Unity users are not familiar with the functionalities of the Unity Hub.
Resolution:
The Unity Hub is a standalone application for accessing the Unity ecosystem. This is used for things like managing your Unity projects, installing Editor versions, licensing and installing add-on components. It was launched back in January 2018, supporting Unity 5.6 (with limitations) and 2017.1. and can be used with the Unity Editor versions 5.6 or higher.
Note: The Unity Editor can be installed as a standalone application meaning the Hub is not a requirement. However, not using the Hub can cause some limitations, for example, not having a user interface to manage Unity ID sign-in, license activation and project management.
The Unity Hub can be downloaded from the following link: Unity Hub
