Users in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau may see "No active licenses" or 404 errors in Unity Hub because Unity China operates separate authentication and licensing systems from Unity Global. Accounts created via the China store are only locally validated, so Global licenses aren't recognized. To resolve this, users must purchase regional licenses from Unity China and request a cancellation for Global licenses through Unity Global Support. Contact supportchina@unity.cn for assistance.
Symptoms:
- The Unity Hub doesn't show your assigned seat for Unity Industry, even though the license appears active on Unity ID.
- You get a 404 error when you try to access the seat through browser-based account management.
Cause:
Unity China operates as a separate entity from Unity Global, with its own authentication and licensing systems, due to local legal and regulatory requirements.
If your account was created through the China store, your data lives in a Chinese data center, which can't validate a Global license. That mismatch is what triggers the "No active licenses" error or the 404.
A few things drive this:
- Separate systems: Because Unity China and Unity Global run on different backend infrastructure, a Global license can't be validated against Unity China's servers and vice versa.
- Regional routing: Users in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau are automatically routed to Unity China's services, so even a valid Global license won't be recognized there.
- Local compliance: Licenses for these regions must be purchased locally to comply with regional regulations.
Resolution:
Contact Unity China at supportchina@unity.cn (or your local distributor in Taiwan) to purchase the correct regional license for your team.
Once your local license is active, request a cancellation for the Global license through Unity Global Support.
