After starting a Unity AI subscription, MCP or AI Gateway connection errors occur due to no Unity AI seat assigned.
To resolve, assign a Unity AI seat to your account, then fully restart the Editor before reconnecting. Unity Pro, Enterprise, or Industry users must also assign license seats to gain access.
Symptoms
After starting a Unity AI subscription, the MCP connection or AI Gateway fails with the following message:
- MCP error message
- Status: Capacity Limit Reason: Your Unity plan doesn't include MCP connections. Upgrade your Unity plan to add more.
- AI Gateway error message
- Your Unity plan does not include AI gateway sessions. Upgrade your Unity plan to add more.
Cause
This is most likely because you have not assigned a Unity AI seat to yourself.
Resolution
Assign a Unity AI Seat
- Log in to cloud.unity.com with your Unity credentials
- Go to Subscriptions
- Click your Unity AI subscription
- Click Assign Seats
- Assign the seat to your account
- Close the Editor completely, then relaunch it before attempting the MCP connection again
Note: For users with Unity Pro, Unity Enterprise, or Unity Industry licenses, properly assigning the license seat is sufficient to grant system access.
