This article helps Unity Plus, Pro, Industry, or Enterprise users locate their license serial number when prompted during activation. It explains the difference between Named User Licenses and serial key-based licenses, and when a key is needed. The article guides users through finding their serial number based on where their subscription is managed—either through the Unity Dashboard or Unity ID. It also provides steps for users who haven’t been assigned a license seat or can’t locate their purchase email. ✨
To use Unity, you’ll need to activate a license. Unity offers two types of licensing systems: the modern Named User Licenses (NUL) and the legacy serial key-based model.
Named User Licenses, commonly used with Industry, Enterprise, and Pro plans, are directly tied to your Unity ID once a seat is assigned. No serial key is needed; activation happens automatically when you sign in to Unity Hub.
That said, you might still need a serial key if you’re activating an older version of Unity or working in a restricted network environment where manual activation is required.
| Important: Unity Personal license users do not have a serial key and can only be activated by logging in to the Hub. For more information, see the article 'How do I activate my license?'. |

If you cannot find your serial number or subscription, first, ensure that you are viewing the correct organization by using the org switcher in the top right corner of the dashboard. If your serial number still does not appear, ask the Owner or Manager of your Unity organization to assign you a license seat, then follow the above instructions.
If your subscription is housed under id.unity.com, follow the steps below:
Sign in to your Unity ID at id.unity.com.
Select My Seats from the left side menu. Your serial number is visible on this page.
