Unity requires license activation via Named User Licenses (NUL) tied to Unity ID or legacy serial keys for older versions or restricted networks. Personal licenses can only be activated through Unity Hub login. For Pro, Industry, and Enterprise users, serial keys are found in seat assignment emails or via organization management on cloud.unity.com or id.unity.com. If missing, contact the organization’s Owner/Manager to assign a seat or Unity support with purchase details.
To use Unity, you’ll need to activate a license. Unity offers two licensing systems: the modern Named User Licenses (NUL) and the legacy serial-key-based model.
Named User Licenses are directly tied to your Unity ID once a seat is assigned. No serial key is needed; activation happens automatically when you sign in to Unity Hub.
That said, you might still need a serial key if you’re activating an older version of Unity or working in a restricted network environment that requires manual activation.
| Important: Unity Personal license users do not have a serial key and can only be activated by logging in to the Hub (NUL). For more information, see the article 'How do I activate my license?'. |
