Asset Store publishers can enhance their product appeal by improving marketing images. This guide outlines size requirements and best practices for icons, cards, covers, social media images, screenshots, and videos/audio. It emphasizes creating visually appealing images with minimal text, logos, and no watermarks. Proper marketing images help showcase assets effectively, increasing customer interest and potential sales. Follow the steps to upload images and refer to Unity's templates and guidelines for optimal results.✨
Cause:
Marketing images can increase customer interest in your assets and enhance your user base.
Marketing images and screenshots will showcase to potential customers what your asset can do. Marketing images should also indicate what your asset package does and help it stand out.
Resolution:
Marketing images (previously Key images), screenshots, and video/audio are good ways to showcase your asset. Create an interesting image design that will demonstrate what your asset does, help it stand out, and entice the user to view it and consider purchasing.
Users often use screenshots and videos/ audio as a package preview before they actually buy a product, so it is highly recommended that they be added.
We understand that creating marketing images is not easy for any asset category, and your creativity can be put to the test. Unity has Key image templates that we recommend looking at.
The limits for marketing image types are as follows:
- Icon: 160 x 160 pixels: The icon image is visible while users browse the Asset Store using the icon grid layout. This image should not contain text. Note: icon images must be 160x160, even though the actual display size is 80x80. At 80x80, the image text is not readable as it is too small, but uploading the larger size lets the Asset Store display icons clearly at the smaller size.
- Card: 420 x 280 pixels: This is a thumbnail visible on the default view while browsing the Asset Store. Note: Like icon images, card images must be uploaded at a larger size (420x280) than the size of the image that ultimately appears on the Asset Store. This image can have only the asset title and a logo or name of the publisher as text.
- Cover: 1950 x 1300 pixels: This is what customers see on the main product page for your package. Note: like icon images, cover images must be uploaded at a larger size (1950x1300) than the size of the image that ultimately appears on the Asset Store. This image can only have the following text:
Title of the asset.
Logo or name of the publisher.
A tag line.
- Social Media: 1200 x 630 pixels: The Unity community team might post these images on social media or on the Asset Store home page. The image should not contain text.
- Screenshots: minimum width 1200. These images should showcase your asset in detail—how it looks from different perspectives, how it works, and what it can do.
- Videos/audio: YouTube, Vimeo, Soundcloud, Mixcloud, and Sketchfab links are accepted. If video is uploaded directly, it has to be in mp4 file format and a maximum size of 500 MB. The video could be a tutorial on how to use the asset, how to set it up, or a showcase of how it looks from different angles or with different animations.
To set one or more marketing images:
- Navigate to the Media tab of the package draft.
- To upload an image, under the Marketing images section, click Browse or drag and drop the image onto the grey box.
- A window will pop up that allows you to select which marketing image to add/change (icon, card, cover, social media) and to crop the image.
- Click Save to save the marketing image.
All marketing images must preferably be limited in the amount of text, logos, and contain no watermarks.
On your asset page, all written information is under the cover image. An excessive amount of text on your image risks interfering with our sales overlays, decreasing the visual standard, and localization abilities.
We occasionally choose individual assets for an Asset Store-financed social media promotion. However, due to Facebook regulations (for example), any asset with text on its marketing image must be disregarded.
Note: marketing images cannot contain any of the following:
- Unity logos.
- Sale banners.
- The default Unity Skybox (for example, as a background).
- The images must not be blurry, stretched, or cropped.
- The images cannot only be screenshots of the Unity Editor.
- You should make different designs for images of different sizes so that the objects or visuals in the icon and card images are legible and separate.
Regarding the ideal asset size, you can set four different resolutions so that your marketing images appear as icons or thumbnails when customers browse or filter the list of packages available in the Asset Store and as larger images on the main product page or on social media.
