Symptoms:
- You have assigned a Unity Industry node-locked license to a user.
- In an offline environment, you are manually activating the Unity Industry node-locked license using its serial number.
- You wish to use a Unity Editor version that is covered by the Extended 3-year LTS (Long-Term Support) program — specifically, versions marked as "xLTS" or "Enterprise and Industry only".
- You have an error like the below when opening a project with xLTS Unity Editor version.
LICENSE ERROR
This build of Unity 2022 is part of an Extended LTS release, which requires either a valid Unity Industry or Unity Enterprise license.
You can continue using earlier Unity 2022 builds compatible with your license or upgrade your license.
To find all the builds available for your license, please check Unity Hub 3.10.0+ or consult the Unity Download Archive.Cause:
In an offline environment, the license file obtained during a serial based activation does not include the entitlement to use Unity Editor versions covered by Long-Term Support (xLTS), due to system limitations, when manually activating a Unity Industry node-locked license.
Resolution:
You should sign in to Unity Hub on a machine that is connected to an online environment to activate a Unity Industry node-locked license - How do I activate or return my Unity Industry/ Enterprise/ Pro license?
By doing so, the license will be activated as a Named User License, and you will receive a license file that includes the necessary entitlements to use Unity Editor versions covered by Long-Term Support (xLTS).
It is recommended to utilize a Unity Industry Floating License rather than a node-locked license when operating in an offline environment where the use of an xLTS version of the Unity Editor is required - What is the difference between a node-locked license and a floating license?
