After logging into Unity's website, users may see two license types under [My Seats]: Serial and Entitlement. Serial is a legacy license tied to specific Unity versions, while Entitlement is the current subscription-based license allowing seat management via the Unity ID portal. Users should keep the Entitlement for active use and can safely remove or return the Serial license if no longer needed, with the option to reactivate it later if assigned.
The type field represents how the license is managed.
Serial:
Refers to a legacy or serial key–based license.
It is typically tied to a specific Unity version and may have been manually activated.Entitlement:
Refers to a subscription-based license, which is the current licensing model used by Unity.
It allows seat assignment and revocation through the Unity ID portal, and is automatically activated and returned upon login or logout.
Resolution
Entitlement represents your active subscription license and should remain assigned for continued use.
Serial represents an older or manually activated license.
If you no longer need to use that license on the same device, you may safely return or remove the Serial activation.
Even after returning the activation, you can re-activate it anytime as long as the seat remains assigned to your account. For more information, please refer to the article below:
