Symptoms:
- I have seen Unity LTS (Long Term Support) mentioned, but I don't know what this is.
- Is Unity LTS the right version for me to use for my project?
- What is the difference between LTS versions and other releases of Unity?
Cause:
You may be unsure which version of Unity is best to use in your project or you are thinking about trying an LTS version for production. As there are many versions of Unity available, it is important to consider the advantages and differences between these versions to ensure that your project is developed to best fit your needs.
Resolution:
Each year Unity releases two new versions of the Editor, known as Tech Stream releases, and one LTS (Long Term Support) release. These versions are typically released in the first and the last quarter of each year.
Tech Stream releases give you the option to use all of the latest in-progress features and updates. These versions are intended for pre-production, prototyping and experimentation, before committing to full project development.
LTS releases are supported for two years, and provide our creators with the maximum stability and fully supported for their project. If you are already in production or close to launching your project, we would always recommend using the latest LTS release, to ensure optimum performance and stability.
LTS releases are frequently updated during their support cycle to improve performance and address any minor fixes which are needed.
