Symptoms:
- You are trying to open a project of 2019.4.27 and lower, or 2020.2.2 and lower
- You are upgraded to a Unity Industry license
- When you try to open the project, a screen appears requesting you to enter a serial key
Cause:
Older versions of Unity Editor(2019.4.27 and lower, or 2020.2.2 and lower) cannot interpret named user licenses, such as Unity Industry licenses.
Resolution:
To resolve this issue, follow the instructions below:
- Launch the Unity Hub
- Click the account icon in the top left of the window and sign in to your Unity ID
- After you are signed in, click Preferences (cog icon)
- Click Licenses > Add license.
- Select Activate with license request.
- Select Create license request and save the file(Unity_lic.alf) to the chosen location on your computer, such as your desktop.
- Click the license.unity3d.com/manual link to open the manual activation page. If prompted, log in with your Unity ID.
- On the Manual activation page, click Browse and select the license request file(Unity_lic.alf) from the location you saved it in step six.
- Enter your serial number and click Next.
Note: You can get the serial number on Unity ID -> My Account -> My Seats
- Click Download the license file and save the .ulf file to your computer.
- Open the Unity Hub’s How to activate an existing license window (Preferences > Licenses > Add > Activate with license file).
- Click Activate.
- Your Unity license is now activated and now you can open your project as usual.
