Symptoms:
- Projects are not appearing in Unity Hub after reinstalling it.
- Projects appear in the Unity Dashboard via a web browser but cannot be accessed through Unity Hub.
- User cannot locate or recover old projects directly through Unity Hub.
Cause:
Unity Hub does not automatically store or sync local Unity project files to the cloud.
The Unity Dashboard only displays metadata about your projects (e.g., services, settings) but not the actual project files. If the original project files are missing from your local storage and were not backed up to a version control system (e.g., Unity Version Control), they cannot be retrieved.
Resolution:
- Verify that the project files exist on your local machine.
- The projects listed in the Unity Dashboard cannot be opened unless their local files are present.
- If the files were not manually backed up or saved to a version control service, they may not be recoverable.
More information:
- To prevent data loss in the future, Unity Version Control is a source control service for developers, artists, and other project contributors, enabling you to backup and view the history of your project, as well as collaboration, and disaster recovery easier. version control is part of the dev-ops services we offer.
