In April 2026, Unity enforced two-factor authentication (2FA) at every login, with stronger security for new devices and a 30-day "Remember this device" option. Delays in receiving 2FA codes may result from poor reception, airplane mode, network traffic, or carrier delays. For account recovery, users must contact support with private and public information. Using a mobile authenticator app with cloud backup is recommended for security. ✨️
In April 2026, we introduced an account security update that enforces two-factor authentication (2FA) for users who have enabled it.
With this update:
- 2FA is now required at every login
- Security checks are stronger for new devices and networks
- A “Remember this device for 30 days” option is available to reduce repeated prompts on trusted devices
If you no longer have access to your authentication method, you may need to complete a 2FA recovery process to regain access to your account.
Cause:
- Your mobile device has poor cellular reception.
- You enable airplane or do not disturb settings.
- Text carriers prioritizing traffic delay messages sent between different networks.
- Heavy local network traffic creates congestion on your carrier network.
Resolution:
- For Unity Ads Tipalti Profiles: Contact Unity Ads Support directly.
- For Account Recovery: If you lose access to your authenticated device, contact the Customer Experience team to temporarily disable 2FA. You must provide one piece of private information and one piece of public information to confirm your identity.
Examples of private information include:
- Name your Unity organization. (Please note that a default organization is created when a Unity account is set up. Please send us the name of this or any other organization that you are part of.)
- Name of a recent Asset Store purchase.
- Recent Asset Store purchase invoice or order number.
- Name of one of your Unity Cloud projects.
Examples of public information include:
- Telephone number currently associated with your Unity ID account.
- Unity Username. (Please note that this is not your email address.)
-
Full physical postal address.
For Login Error Messages: If you see the error message "We have encountered an issue during this login attempt," refer to the relevant support article. To learn more, see the Unity Knowledge Base article, I see the error, 'We have encountered an issue during this login attempt. Please contact Unity Support'.
- Security Best Practice: Enable 2FA using a mobile authenticator application. Authenticator apps generate local security codes and do not require network connectivity. Choose an authenticator application that supports cloud backups to secure your account if your device breaks or suffers theft.
